Peppermint Oil: The European Do-All Ingredient

Peppermint has been traditionally used in toothpaste (and countless beauty products for that matter). Peppermint is one Europe’s indigenous plants with a long tradition of medicinal and nutritional practices. Dating back thousand of years to ancient Greece, and Rome it’s not only one of our favorite scents for the holiday season, used on the skin it stimulates blood flow—which can help to reduce stress—and promote an even skin tone.

Using peppermint oil is known to stimulate the brain and promotes clear thoughts. It leaves you feeling refreshed and mentally energized, making it great for the body and the mind. Not to mention the scalp. Head & Shoulders has an Instant Relief Scalp Soother infused with tea tree essence and peppermint oil. A recent favorite of Around the World Beauty writer, Brenda Garcia Jaramillo, is charcoal + peppermint oil cooling jelly conditioner which has a cool (literally & figuratively) jelly texture which helps to reduce dry scalp itchiness while balancing scalp hydration.

Peppermint works with a dry scalp to prevent hair loss, and promote hair growth. There are many ways you can use peppermint into your daily beauty routine.

Scalp Massage

You want to use 2-4 drops of peppermint oil onto your hands. Mix it with a Jojoba, olive, or almond oil so the peppermint isn’t as heavy.  Using your fingers massage it for 5 minutes really working it into the scalp. This will heal any small irritations and give you beautiful healthy hair.

Tired feet

Add one cup of Epson Salt and 10 drops of peppermint oil to a hot foot bath and soak.

Beauty Note

Peppermint is a really powerful oil so use it wisely. 4-5 drops will be enough for the whole scalp. Its been said that over exposure can lead to migraines, and other side effects. Just use wisely, beauty travelers.HSImage

Peppermint is one of my all time favorite essential oils! I haven’t tried it out in a foot soak yet, but it’s now on my to do list.
