Felicia Ruiz is not an average curandera. She’s not simply a traditional healer but she’s also a holistic chef, indigenous food activist, and author. Felicia lives in Phoenix, Arizona where she shares her indigenous knowledge about foods, herbs, and other remedies by offering medicine workshops and one-on-one healing sessions for her community. During the Beauty and Travel Summit, I was fortunate to interview this iconic woman who shared with us her journey to become a holistic healer and author of a book.

The continuously developing natural hair movement that started within Black communities and now taking space within the different Latinx communities is expanding our societal perceptions of what “beauty” means. In essence, beauty is who YOU are. Curly, straight, pixie cut, Repunzel mane, afro, multi-colored, never processed, highlighted. However you choose to wear your hair is beautiful. So for me today, outside of showing you this (spoiler!) incredible cut I received at Curls on Fifth. I need to explain the impact it had on me and how powerful but also frightening embracing your own beauty is.

I’m always looking for new ways to achieve baby smooth, bump-less skin. Whether it’s cooking up my own at-home body scrub — coffee grounds mixed with olive oil is my fave — or drowning my body in organic coconut oil immediately after coming out of the shower. Exfoliating really is just as important as hydrating but believe it or not, I’ve gotten better results from a $2 product I got in Marrakech, Morocco than from any fancy dry brush I’ve ever purchased. That’s right girls, the Moroccan hammam scrubbing exfoliating mitt — known as the kessa mitten — cost me less than a cup of coffee in NYC but works wonders. I legit can’t live without this and I’m mad I didn’t seriously stock up while I was out there.
As a female traveler who lived in Morocco for 3 years, I often get asked about how I felt travelling around Morocco as a solo traveler often. Thankfully, I can say I was very blessed to few bad or scary moments in my time living alone in Morocco. Particularly, when I lived in the most remote desert village, that was 20 hours away by road to Rabat, I felt safest travelling.I definitely felt like I was prepared and aware on how to stay safe abroad.

Marrakech city nightlife is legit one of my absolute favorite things about Marrakech. While I can get down with hanging out in Djemma El Fna at night from time to time with friends to eat in one of the food stalls or listen to the Gnawa musicians or watch some of the traditional games being played, sometimes I just want to get dressed up and check out a restaurant, bar, or a good ol’ nightclub. We listed some of the must see clubs, restaurants, and lounges (by neighborhood) you can’t miss while you’re in Marrakech.

If there’s one thing I learned from Morocco, it is nothing like how you expect it to be. While this is not the end-all-be-all of Amazigh history, the purpose of this article is to inspire the reader to learn about a culture and people that are traditionally overlooked globally. Let's explore Morocco as a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic melting pot
Now let me begin by prefacing that I hate the idea of policing how a person, or specifically how a woman, should choose to dress herself. I’m a big supporter of dress the way that makes you happy whether that’s walking around in a toga or in a full-bodied panda suit. However, I also know that belief comes from the privilege of growing up in NYC, where individuality and eccentricity is valued and we don’t give a **** about what others think of us.
There is a lot going on in the skies this week. From the major transition of Uranus into Taurus to the New Moon in Taurus and the sun currently being in Taurus, we all will be feeling a lot of bull energy this week to say the least. But those aren’t the only major events going on in the world due to the planetary movements. Today’s New Moon also welcomes the beginning of Ramadan, the holiest month in Islam.

Costa Rica is one of the most vibrant, eco-friendly, and open minded cultures there is around the world. It’s surrounded by rainforests and natural experiences like visits to the Arenal Volcano, with hanging bridges, giant waterfall and thermal mineral pools.
